Horse Hair Jewellery from Tail End Jewellery

'The Tale Behind' is a place for you to tell us the story behind the special piece of jewellery that we made for you. We hope that this will enable you to share with us all, the special bond that you and your horse share, whether they are still part of your life or not.

If you wish to feature in this section then just send us your story (and a photo or two would be great!) and those picked will receive a £10 Gift Voucher to use on our website. A new story will be chosen and posted every few weeks so keep popping back to read them!

I will start with my story of Gold:

Aslan
Thank you so much for the beautiful bracelet you made me. It arrived very quickly and was a lovely suprise for me when I got back home from work. My mare Aslan (Holy Silver) was a pure Irish Draught mare who I owned for 15 years from a 4 year old. She was amazing and gave me so many happy memories. She always tried her hardest and never ever let me down.  She went very suddenly after starting to have fits in May 2016. Turned out she had a growth at the base of her neck where it joined the wither which explained why she was having fi...
Aurora
I first met Aurora about 10 years ago. I was in my late fifties and a returner to riding after 40 years and she was a safe set of hooves. She taught countless children to ride, and was willing to take me on as well. She guided me through my lessons and gently and responsively put me through my paces. She gave me confidence in my rusty abilities straight away, helped me to feel at home again in the saddle and we were soon out hacking together. We understood each others moods and if either of us had an off day we made allowances for it. A ...
Boston
Boston You came into my life one day The hand of fate was played that way I wasn't looking for a horse You changed my life, moved it's course Your curly ears, the endless stains Getting lost down country lanes The things they said you'd never do But nothing was beyond you You tried so hard to do your best Often finishing above the rest We had so much fun over the years Your passing on brings me to tears You were so big, so brave, so bold At least you will never grow old ...
Poe
A few years ago we sadly lost our sons pony Poe. Poe was a companion for other horses. On their retirement the previous family wanted Poe to carry on and have fun, at the age of 7 we took Poe on, he never had a saddle on his back but loved fuss from children. My son at the age of 4 adored Poe and spent hours brushing him. Each day we slowly introduced tack and schooled Poe. Twelve months later would you believe they were best friends and competed in local horse shows winning In-Hand Children Championship at Foxes Riding School (Wirral). ...
Celebrity
I still remember the day I met you. It was the day you were born and I had to cut the bag. From the moment I saw that funny coloured white thing I was hooked. I said Squishy, you will be mine and I am so proud to say that you are. I found out that you were for sale as they said you were the wrong colour. Well to me you are perfect and boy you were, as we went on to win at many shows because of your strange colour. Even my vet said that you were a strange colour - a cremelo with 4 white socks and a blaze. Your colour just made me love you eve...
Merlin
Merlin died this November and left a massive hole in my heart. I had the pleasure of owning him for 22 and half years and he never put a foot wrong. I rode him up to the end, he was 32 and half years young.  Merling took me on various holidays for years all round the country and taught me so much. We did very well at dressage, winning lots of competitions but mainly he was my friend, a true gentleman with a massive heart. I am glad he didnt suffer at the end and everyone said he had a great life. Thank you for the lovely bra...
Dolly
I've owned Dolly for nearly 9 years now....she's such a character and makes everybody laugh. She can be naughty ands cheeky but what pony isnt! I have such a close relationship with her and I'm pretty sure I know what she is thinking.  Dolly has been retired for almost 2 years now but we still enjoy going out for walks together and she loves meeting dog walkers and cyclists who always comment "you've forgotten your saddle" as we go past. She's a spoilt pony, living the life of luxury but I wouldn...
Careby Jubilee
Thank you for my beautiful bracelet, made from the tail of Careby Jubilee.  Careby Jubilee - my horse of a lifetime! We purchased CJ 10 years ago, as a 4 year old, and evented through the grades to BE Novice level. Neither of us had done any BE previously so we muddled through and taught each other! CJ was a cross country machine, ears pricked forward in every single picture! CJ is pictured here in what turned out to be her last competition, the BRC NAF National Championships at Lincoln, competing in the Open showjumping for Hou...
Jed
This is me and Jed on our last day together. He was lame since March. I tried everything to fix him but god musy have needed him more than I did as he gained his pegasus wings on the 22nd December 2016.  I received my ring made by yourselves, I love it and he will always be with me now so thank you so much. Leanne, January 2017
Rocky
Rocky won't be remembered for his jumping ablility (because he didn't really like jumping), or his flat work (because he found it hard work and boring) or in the showring (he didn't have the best conformation), but he will be remembered and loved always because for 28 years he was safe and reliable and he understood, and he was my best friend. He knew when my confidence was rock bottom following an accident on another horser and was patient when I mounted and dismounted half a dozen times during a ride with anxiety attacks. ...
Ted
I bought Father Jerry as a 3 year old from Ireland. He was named after the priest who sold him. I nicknamed him "Ted" and brought him on.  I took him through the grades eventing and he was awesome. He was an incredibly intelligent horse but very naughty unless his brain was fully occupied. We had a unique partnership and he was a true 'one person' horse. I adored him and he carried me round some of the biggest tracks in the world including Burgley 4 star twice. We competed all over Europe and had enormous fun toget...
Killarney Bracken
Killarney Bracken was a very special horse loved by us all. She was a gentle giant with the grandchildren and was only 8 when she was taken from us with colic in February 2017.  She is missed so much and is now running free at rainbow bridge with her friend Mr Chips.  Carol, April 2017
Comet
I had a ring made in memory of my horse of a lifetime Comet.  I bought his mum in 2008 and unknown to anyone she was in foal. After 5 months of ownership I discovered the pregnancy and 2 weeks later Comet arrived. He was my first foal and I learned so much, he was calm and laid back taking everything in his stride. Devastatingly, when he was 5 years old he was taken ill with atypical myopathy and we discovered some sycamore seeds in our grazing. He fought hard but the toxin took over and sadly I watched him leave this wrold just...
Dallas
Dallas was the offspring of the famous Lloyds Bank Black Horse. She had been rescued by my friend becuase they were going to put her to sleep due to being slightly pigeon toed, as she could not be seen from that stallion if she was not perfect. She was given to me and was going to be my next para horse as I am an above the knee amputee.  Dallas was the happiest, sweetest mare to be around and just loved her young life. In October 2015 I was given the dreadful news that she had Lymphoma and that nothing could be done for her. The...
Sky
Sky came to me at two years old she is now eight, before coming to me she had very little done with her. She arrived with cuts and was very nervous, her first loading experience was not good which left her terrified of loading.  I backed and schooled her myself. She is everything I could ask for in a horse. She has the best manners on the ground and listens to everything asked of her under saddle. This year I plan on taking her to her first fun ride, to do this we had to tackle the trailer fear. At first she was so frightened there ...
