Horse Hair Jewellery from Tail End Jewellery

'The Tale Behind' is a place for you to tell us the story behind the special piece of jewellery that we made for you. We hope that this will enable you to share with us all, the special bond that you and your horse share, whether they are still part of your life or not.

If you wish to feature in this section then just send us your story (and a photo or two would be great!) and those picked will receive a £10 Gift Voucher to use on our website. A new story will be chosen and posted every few weeks so keep popping back to read them!

I will start with my story of Gold:

Ralphie
My daughter, Meg and I were introduced to Ralphie back in 2007. He was in a field not really doing anything and we eventually managed to part loan him. A year later, we bought him. Meg and Ralphie soon became firm friends and soulmates. He had a few problems at first with his health and Meg patiently brought him through that and slowly back into work. After that, she kept him fit and healthy. They loved hacking over the downs, along the beach or just having fun in the sand school. She loved riding and he loved being ridden! They trained har...
Indi
They say that there is always one horse that you have a particularly special connection with and that horse for me was Indi.  I bought him seven years ago as a pony to bring on and learn together. The first few months of having him he was very nervy and suspicious but it did not take long before we became the best of friends. He was by no means an easy horse which made each ride more exciting (we did get sent home from one Pony Club xc rally for his naughty behaviour!).  I had many happy years at Pony Club with him, with some of...
Fern
I stumbled across this beautiful girl whilst trying another horse to buy at the same yard. It was by pure chance that as we were just leaving, a man stopped us and said his girlfriend was selling her horse in the next barn and my friend and I thought "why not". As I got to the stable this equisite face appeared over the door and I was in love. She could have thrown me off and I'd have still bought her because she was simply the most beautiful animal I had ever laid eyes on. As luck would have it, she didn't throw me off (th...
Bubbles
I recently purchased a ring from Tail End Jewellery after losing my horse, Bubbles early August this year. She was my cheeky little haflinger who I had the pleasure of spending 7 years of my life with. She would buck me off on many occasions, especially when those occasions included school work. Or she would be my amazing bombproff sweetheart when hacking around the woods. Either way, I love Bubbles with every inch of my heart and no matter what, she was my girl. I know that even though she has now sadly passed that she will always be...
Ozzie
My 10.3hh little Ozzie was bought for Eliza to do her final year of Junior Mounted Games on in 2012 and with the help of an amazing team trainer called Lisa they had great success and were always in the top teams at every Pony Club Friendly. They won at Area, were fourth at Zone and at the Championships. When Heath, my youngest took over he was well versed in all races and they went on to be third at the Champs in 2014 and very nearly took the top spot at the Pony Club Championships at Cholmondeley this year 2015, being 3 points behind Ath...
Tara
Tara was my world from having her at the age of 5 until she went to the gallops at rainbow bridge nearly 3 years ago aged 22. She was larger than life at 16.3hh and we shared our lives together. She was my best friend who i could tell everything and she would listen. I have cried into her mane, shared billions of kisses and had fun too. When she left me she took a massive chunk of my heart and not a day goes by where she is not in my thoughts.  I have two beautiful necklaces made from her tail that are with me always and to Tail E...
Charlie
I never understood how a hobby could become a passion until I met Charlie.  Charlie was a riding school horse and from the riding schools point of view was probably one of the best horses they had. He was sensible enough to put the flapping beginners on but put an experienced rider on him and the sky was the limit. I fell in love with him the moment I met him. A pastel pink my little pony with a heart of gold. He was the type of horse that you had to tell him when he had done enough because he would have rode himself into the ground t...
Lulu & Dublin
My Daughter Karen and I own two beautiful Hanovarian x TB mares. mother Lulu and her daughter Dublin. We bought Lulu aged 4 in 1994 and bred Dublin in 2003. Lulu has been an amazing horse for us both, competing successfully with Karen and being a fantastic hack for me. She is still going strong at 25.  Karen backed and trained Dublin herself and now 12, she is a great all rounder.  Both horses are our pride and joy and a huge part of our lives. Just this week we had a short hack with 3 generations on 2 generations - me on Lulu ...
Eric
My daughter Sarah (now Foster) had her horse Eric when she was 15 and he was 4. She did everything with him such as Pony Club, Hunter Trials, one Day Events, Hunting and Fun Rides. I also helped with exercising and took him on Fun Rides.  He was 16.1hh and we are fairly certain he was a shire cross. He had a perfect temperament and was alsways kind and affectionate. He loved jumping, especially cross country and had a powerful jump. He had a few years in retirement as a companion to a freinds horse and sadly died last summer in hi...
Dennis
I first met Dennis in 2013 when I started working at a livery yard to complete my Level 2 NVQ apprenticeship in Horse Care. Almost from day one I began to ride him and each day I appreciated him more and more. Even though he was getting on in his old age, he never disappointed. He'd been out of work due to his owners other commitments for a while, but from the first day I rode him I could see he loved being ridden, pampered and loved. Then due to a change in his owners circumstances in 2015, Dennis was sold to me! I couldn't believe ...
Bronwen
I had my bracelet made in memory of my beautiful horse Bronwen. Bron was a rescue horse and we had her for 16 wondeful years. She lived at home with us so was a real part of the family, more like a big dog than a horse! She shared everything with us and played a big part in our lives, as well as my rehabilitation following a serious riding accident which unfortunately left me unable to ride again. We have so many wondeful memories of her and miss her so very much.  It was the vet who suggested having some jewellery made with...
Leo
Since I took up riding I always wanted my own horse. After a few years my parents gave in and agreed to help me buy one. We looked everywhere, with many disasters and falls, until my instructor at the tme told me about Leo, a 7yo IDxTB. When I saw Leo the first time he was massive (17.2hh) and lived in a lady's back garden. I got on, and hacked him to a school and instantly felt safe. Within a week he was home with me. We started off as happy hackers, until Leo came to university with me and I found a passion for dressage. Leo in...
Famoso
Famoso was the most friendly stallion you would ever meet, everyone who knew him loved him! Charlotte bought him two years ago when he was just 9, having known him for over a year. She had him graded with Anglo European Stud, as one of their registered stallions.  Famoso was bought to compete at show jumping but unfortunately had lost his nerve, so we turned to dressage, which he took in his stride, winning his first British Dressage Competition at Oldencraig Equestrian Centre.  We were hoping that in his later years he may...
Brenin
I recently lost my beloved Welsh pony, Brenin, having owned him for 8 years. I wanted a pony since I was 7 and finally got Brenin when I was 40!! He meant the world to me being my first pony. He came to me with some problems, he had been a bit neglected and had been ridden with sharp teeth which I soon rectified, however he still shook his head for 2 years! I am sure most people would have sent him straight back but I just loved him so much but with a lot of patience and some very scary moments out hacking due to no brakes (thankfully a ...
Sarah&Maisie
Many thanks for the Pendant, it is lovely and the perfect gift for RDA Instructor Sarah. Sarah has been at Wakefield RDA for 19years and has helped so many disabled people improve their lives and the lives of their families. She has taken riders and horses to compete successfully at the RDA National Championships held at Hartbury College every July, winning the Best Turned Out nearly every year and has been involved at Regional level as well. The role of an RDA Instructor is so varied and not just about teaching riding and therapy. R...
